I'm sorry, weren't these same oh-so-compassionate DUmmies criticizing Elizabeth Edwards on a thread because she refused to join them in their incredibly evil attacks on CANCER PATIENT Laura Ingraham?

Karma's a bitch, DUmmies.

That second pictures looks like the number of McDonald's employees required to push Michael Moore out the door after last call.

I bet it was the posting of Andy's hospital room info. I don't think people should be calling there.

DU--the power of delusional thinking in action

Somebody's been using the Jedi mind trick.

"You have cancer!"

"You need to give me money."

I have NO desire to register over at, but since I'd been doing some research on pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer maybe one of you might want to point a couple things out to Will and Sindawe. She's trying to back up his "won't know what kind of cancer it is post Feel free to use as much or as little of this as you wish:

"I belive the terms you are looking for are malignant and benign. Malignant being aggressively spreading, benign being happy to stay where it is for the most part.
I hope the cancer Andy had was benign, so that he pulls through with a good recovery."

You are confused. Benign means NONCANCEROUS. No Malignancy. A tumor can be cancer, but it doesn't have to be.

However, given that these doctors are some of the best in the country (Mr. "I NEED THE BEST CARE AVAILABLE" Stephenson would have no less)...something that most of us with REAL jobs and decent health insurance wouldn't be able to get, nor would anyone on any taxpayer funded healthcare program, they would have been able to know with fairly good accuracy whether Andy had malignant cancer BEFORE surgery. Andy said he had all the recommended tests (according to the JH website):
A CAT scan will "...visualize approximately 9 out of 10 pancreatic cancers."
An ERCP "...can detect an abnormality suspicious of cancer in about 9 out of 10 patients...Patients who have very small cancers, less than 2 cm, that currently do not alter the main ducts of the pancreas or the bile duct will not be visible." (REMEMBER ANDY SAID THE TUMOR COLLAPSED HIS BILE DUCT SO HIS TUMOR WOULD HAVE BEEN VISIBLE).
EUC (Ultrasound): It is the most accurate method for detecting the spread of cancer...In one comparative study of diagnostic methods, the sensitivities for tumors smaller than 3 cm, were 93% EUS. Fine Needle Biopsy FNA: Considered the "gold standard" in diagnosing PC. The diagnosis of a pancreatic tumor...is highly accurate, approaching 99%. However, it is only between 50-70% accurate in determining whether the tumor is benign or malignant. Because the amount of tissue obtained is so small, the absence of malignant cells in the sample cannot exclude the possibility of malignant disease altogether.

As the JH website points out, combining the data from all tests provides an extremely accurate diagnosis...his doctors, who treat thousands of PC patients and perform hundreds of surgeries, would KNOW what they were dealing with. Which leads to the surgery. There are ONLY 2 kinds of surgery performed for PC: the "whipple" (what everyone was led to believe Andy would have...though someone at one time mentioned a "mini-whipple"), done when the cancer is at the top of the pancreas, and a Distal Pancreatectomy and Splenectomy, done when the tumor is at the bottom of the pancreas. Since Andy said his tumor collapsed his bile duct, it's pretty obvious he would have had to have a whipple.

Yet, right here in this blog, Will Pitt, you say PART of his pancreas was removed. No way in hell is one of the top cancer doctors in the country going to risk his reputation, the reputation of his hospital and a world famous treatment center removing only part of the pancreas instead of doing "a pancreaticoduodenectomy (whipple), which is the removal of the gallbladder, common bile duct, part of the duodenum, and the head of the pancreas." It just WOULD NOT happen.

And there's still the "small" matter of Andy's weight. Granted, since doubters have been going on and on about this, someone FINALLY mentioned it on DU (you evidently have to see him up close to notice). Let's get real here. If Andy was diagnosed a few months ago by this time he would have lost a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight. Recent pictures don't support that, I mean the camera may add 10 pounds, but please! Because of the pancreas' role in digestion, the cancer eats almost all the nutrients the body takes in. It also tends to be very aggressive since it can secrete cancer cells along with the fluids it releases to aid in digestion into nearby organs.

4-6 months is the usual life expectancy without treatment (most of which would have to be spent in hospice care receiving pain medication...it's not a fun way to die). I realize Andy was way too busy saving the world from vote-stealing republicans, but the man shouldn't have been able to walk around by now, let alone jet set around the country. Again, perhaps JH isn't the place to be since oncologists dealing with ANY kind of cancer tend to want to operate YESTERDAY and childish little "paperwork" snafus aren't going to get in the way...he's not buying a new steam iron here.

Since Andy will now be entering into the vaccine trial BECAUSE THAT WAS THE REASON JOHNS HOPKINS WAS CHOSEN IF WE'RE TO BELEIVE ANDY AND HIS INNER CIRCLE (the first treatment begins 8-10 weeks after surgery) and also includes radiation. I assume he's going into the one currently recruiting (they need 60 patients), he'll be spending a great amount of time in Baltimore...sometimes in the hosptal, sometimes as an outpatient, but treatment will significantly curtail his jet setting lifestyle. I expect we won't be seeing him at too many meet-ups, teach-ins or love-ins as I'm sure he won't want to miss a treatment, nor will he probably feel up to it. I realize someone "pulled some strings" to get him into an ongoing trial (unnecessary since they're currently recruiting and he just has to meet the criteria), but...wait, lets digest this for a minute. These scientists are doing life and death research that could impact the lives of thousands, they are currently in the middle of a specific trial, but because somebody knew somebody who is a high mucky-muck in baseball and supports the cancer center, they are going to risk tainting their data to let our little Andy in...riiiiight!

More likely, is that our favorite vote fraud maven had pancreatitis. If you skip on over to the gastroenterology section of the JH website: http://hopkins-gi.nts.jhu.edu/pages/latin/templates/index.cfm?pg=disease4&organ=4&disease=24&lang_id=1, you'll find an array of options (surgical and otherwise) available for treatment of acute or chronic pancreatitis. Surgical options include everything from partial pancreatic removal to the whipple. If you need a second opinion the Pancreas Foundation, http://www.pancreasfoundation.org is also a good resource.

Interestingly enough, pancreatitis DOES tend to make one bloated, which recent pictures certainly do support. Now, that's not to say pancreatitis isn't dangerous...especially if the sufferer is unwilling to give up those things that make it worse: smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating fatty foods. Surgery costs about the same, but it isn't necessary to have it immediately. And considering the hero-worship Andy seems to enjoy among leftists, he could probably have raised the money by being truthful.

What's really sad about this...people gave that didn't have it to give...YOU know that Will. Little kids took money out of their piggy banks. People who had cancer or other debilitating diseases gave because they were told Andy's life and work were so important and they wanted to help someone who was also suffering, perhaps even facing death. There were students donating from college funds, people on fixed incomes, and others willing to let their electricity bill go unpaid for a month...and the dollars rolled in. Still, no one but Andy knows how much was collected. For all we know he could be sitting on 6 figures, even after paying JH.

At every turn, people who asked for some kind of accountablilty were silenced by the cacaphony of screeching harpies (including you) who'd rather discredit some donor than offer transparency yourselves. They answered your call, but you were unwilling to answer theirs. "It's true because I say it's true." Isn't that what you said when someone dared question Andy's illness? They didn't want their money back...they wanted to make sure their donation was being used properly. When you decided to ask for public funds, you should also have understood that meant public scrutiny. Over 120 websites and organizations put the word out to save Andy's life. All they needed to were bills for treatment, the kind we all get every time we go to the doctor for a sore throat or a flu shot. You say those of us unwilling to BELEIVE are "what true wretchedness looks like", that we are "graveyard rats", but I'll be able to look in a mirror and know I didn't lend my name and reputation to a cause deemed so important that disabled people, people on fixed incomes sent their last dimes to support. I can look at myself and know I didn't take donations that could have gone to people who were really dying of cancer, even if they weren't VIP's like Andy. Can you say the same, Will?

By the way Will, a little investigative journalism and you could have found all this information out, too. You wouldn't have had to sacrafice your reputation for a lie that I think you are smart enough to figure out...otherwise YOU wouldn't have had so many questions along the way. There were an awful lot of people who donated because they didn't know Andy but they "trust Will". Still, I'd really like to know...what is it that Andy is holding over you to get you to continually to support his lies? Or are you really just a piss-poor journalist?

They're deeply disturbed, inhumane, vindictive, pathetic losers Who have nothing better to do but plot against a hospital patient who's fighting for his life.

Good grief Charile Brown. No one is plotting against Andy. Your own people at DU have raised questions about fundraising fraud by AS, while hoping that if he is legit, he'll have a speedy recovery. How is that different than what anyone else has done?

I've never met anyone this cruel in real life.

Wrong again. Your own people at DU were happy that Laura Ingram was diagnosed with Cancer and wished her much suffering and a painful death. No one has done anything remotely similiar regarding Andy.
