Rita Katz, director of the SITE Institute, a nonprofit group in the District that monitors terrorist sites for the federal government, said she believed that without the Internet, Zarqawi's group would not be as revered as it is today. "Zarqawi has progressed tremendously over the past two years," she said, "and I think that the Internet contributes very much to his reputation."
In some chat rooms, Abu Maysara and his collaborators are hailed as heroes.
On Sept. 22, after he announced the beheading of Eugene "Jack" Armstrong, 52, a native of Hillsdale, Mich., dozens of people on one Web site thanked him and Zarqawi.
"I love you, I love you, O slaughtering Sheikh!" one person wrote, according to a translation by the SITE Institute. Another said that he would "pray to Allah that He protect you, O Mujahideen of Iraq."
In the past, Katz said, Abu Maysara seemed to ignore them, but in recent days Katz noticed something that was either a remarkable coincidence or a change in Abu Maysara's habits.
In a posting on Sept. 22 at 3:46 a.m., time zone unspecified, a person calling himself Nimr suggested that the group make Kenneth Bigley, the 62-year-old British citizen who had been kidnapped with Armstrong and another American, Jack Hensley, 48, of Marietta, Ga., beg for his life to the "tyrant."
A few days later, a clip appeared on the Web site with a distraught Bigley pleading to British Prime Minister Tony Blair to save him.

Something that piqued my curiosity, considering this was a day of "rides and fun" for the children, was the list of guest speakers:

Let's take a look at these individuals and again ask ourselves just why were they speaking at a children's event.
Iman Zaid Shakir
Shakir is an American born African-American convert to Islam. Born in Berkley,CA and raised in different states, mainly in the ghetto's, Shakir is a devotee of Malcom X. Shakir often speaks at colleges and universities as well as different muslim youth groups.

Dr. Ingrid Mattson
Ingrid Mattson is a Canadian born convert is Islam. From 1987-1988 she lived in Pakistan. She is vice president of the Islamic Society of North America and a professor of Islamic studies at Hartford Seminary in Connecticut.
Excerpt from a very interesting article (March 2004):
"Though Dr. Ingrid Mattson appears moderate, she is insidious precisely because she maintains that façade while steadfastly refusing to criticize radical Islamists, claiming that there is no such thing as Wahhabism and that the term "Islamic terrorism" should not be used in the media. Most shocking of all, though, is how little concern she expressed about suicide bombings in an essay she wrote shortly after 9/11."

In 2002 the Southern Baptist Council and Rev. Jerry Falwell had some things to say about Islam (I am neither a baptist nor a follower of Rev. Falwell although IMO they do hit the nail on the head. Just disseminating information here. ).

One could spend an enormous amount of time researching W.D. Mohammed. W.D., like Zaid Shakir, has roots in the Malcom X movement. W.D. Mohammed's father, Elijah Muhammad, is one of the originators of recruiting black men in prison to islam. He was also one of the leaders of the Nation of Islam. Here is Elijah Muhammad's bio:

At some point W.D. Mohammed split from the Nation of Islam and denounced much that his father stood for. Later W.D. reunited with Malcolm X. Now, just to mention both sides of what I've found, there are quite a few muslim sites that commend W.D. Mohammed as being a leader of the "peaceful side of islam". But, I remain suspicious about the "peaceful" side of Islam as I haven't seen much, if any, of it.
If one is interested there is much more information on line regarding all three of these individuals. I have tried to give just a bit about each and as this post is entirely too long as it is I will leave with just this question:

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The Saudi government has ordered the closure of a large charity that Washington accuses of helping finance terrorist activities, a Saudi official said Tuesday.
The Riyadh-based Al-Haramain foundation has until Oct. 15 to dissolve all its operations, the official said on condition of anonymity.
Adel al-Jubeir, foreign policy adviser to Crown Prince Abdullah, announced in Washington in June that in an effort to prevent charitable donations from bankrolling terrorism, the Saudi government was creating a commission to filter contributions raised inside the kingdom to support causes abroad.
The plan included dissolving Al-Haramain and other Saudi charities and folding their financial assets into the new national commission.
The U.S. government, as part of its anti-terrorism strategy after the Sept. 11 attacks, has sought to cut off the sources of terrorists’ financing. Al-Haramain came under scrutiny after the attacks on suspicion of funding al-Qaida terror activities.
Last month, the Bush administration designated Al-Haramain as a group suspected of supporting terrorism through its Springfield, Mo. mosque and its main location in Ashland, Ore., saying the charity “shows direct links between the U.S. branch and Osama bin Laden.” Assets of the two properties have been frozen since February.
The charity’s branches in 10 countries, mostly in Africa and Asia, have been shut down for suspected ties to al-Qaida and other terror groups.
Al-Haramain has repeatedly denied that its donations fund terror.
