Look at the "fuzzy" (photo-edited ?) object in the background of the first photograph you referenced, and colors the boat colors and arrangement.

I enlarged this, by increasing it's resolution from 70 to 350.

Also the cable railing that you can see in back of them, that should be passing behind the machine gun, does not line up. It's just missing for a space, but the ends are not where they should, if it were just missing a piece, or is that just the way that the swift boats were set up to make way for the machine gun fire?

Maybe if the sun is directly above them the shadows depend on minor adjustments such as a head tilt. Tilt the head a few degrees the other way and the shadow changes sides.

I'm no expert on shadows though.
