WASHINGTON (AP) -- Man's best friend, in this case a male poodle, is genetically more similar to humans than is the mouse, a more commonly used laboratory animal, according to researchers who have completed the first rough draft sequence of the genes of a dog.

All mammals, at one point, had a common ancestor. But dogs are known to have diverged toward an independent species about 95 million years ago. The mouse and humans both diverged about 87 million years ago, making mice closer to humans in time. There is no proof of this claim. It is based on naturalistic presuppositions, minus any evidence.

Maybe they should have consulted with an English setter for help on writing this article.

Ewen F. Kirkness of the institute for Genomic Research, the first author of the study, said that genetic sequence is important for medical research because dogs share about 360 of the same genetic disorders that are known in humans. [snip] Using this technique from species to species will enable researchers to more quickly and at less cost
identify the genetic source of many human disorders, he said.
Yes, as the creationists claim, nothing useful ever comes from the theory of evolution.

There is no proof of this claim. It is based on naturalistic presuppositions, minus any evidence. Actually, it is based on a mountain of evidence.
To: Lurking Libertarian
You missed the part where it was stated that "It is based on naturalistic presuppositions". This is true, since it doesn't assume that some god magicked everything to be as it is. How unscientific, refusing to entertain fantastic notions like that.

It is based on naturalistic presuppositions, minus any evidence. Oh there is evidence, but it is the presuppositions that color the conclusions.

Just how do they know when the dog diverged? Well, the same way they determined when the whales "diverged" from the mesonychus. What is that you say? The whales "diverged" from the pakicetus!!
