I remember this case when it Sean Hannity first publicized it on his radio show. The DA really wanted to nail this guy to the wall. Now the system is willing to let him off with a misdemeanor and probation. I think they are seeing their case fall apart and don't want to risk it in a trial. Therefore, it must be taken to a trial just to rub New York's face in it.

So if a homeowner beats an intruder to death with a baseball bat, it's okay, right?

But only an unregistered gun is off limits.

How ridiculous.

....this man, unfortunately, decided to sidestep the law...

....so, by exercising his constitutional right to protect his family, he's gonna get hosed. Sure makes perfect sense to me(??)!

Another great reason to live in the Republic of Texas! Enter my house as a career criminal, or any other form of threat to my family, me or my property, expect to leave shot! No apology to anyone will be forthcoming, and I won't get "billed" - too bad we have socialist states in the union which disregard the constitution of the United States!

Stay vigilent, stay armed, and never trust a muslim or a liberal; both are terrorists, differing only in weaponry and technique.

So in your opinion, each of us should decide which laws are stupid and disregard them. Right?

Common sense makes it clear that you don't initiate force, threat of force or fraud against any person or their property. For to do so is to violate a person's inalienable individual rights.

"No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another, and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him." -- Thomas Jefferson

When a person gets a piece of paper saying they are employed by the government that doesn't magically give the person a right to initiate force, threat of force or fraud against people. In common sense and natural law it is a crime to initiate force, threat of force or fraud against any person.

Well he DID break the law, apparently

Any edict contrary to the Constitution is null and void per Marbury v. Madison. So the "law" he broke is no more legitimate than the "law" that said Rosa Parks had to sit in the back of the bus.

If anyone broke the law here, it's the corrupt politician in New York. It is a violation of federal law to attempt to deprive anyone of their civil Rights, which is exactly what is happening here. If he worked with others (quite likely), he's not only guilty of that law, but also of conspiring to violate someone's civil Rights.

He showed irresponsibility in having that gun and should be denied the right to have any further "registered" guns in the future by having a criminal record.

Maybe he actually believed we lived in a Free country like our politicians tell us.

but I also don't want unregistered guns in the hands of gang members and lunatics

Exactly who decides which of us are "lunatics"?

gang-members and lunitics is slang for blacks and poor whites.

If you had a gun permit in some other state you can ignore the law in NY."

Dixon was under no more moral or legal obligation to obey the illegitimate edicts of New York than Rosa Parks was when she refused to sit in the back of an Alabama bus.

I would have bet a million $$ (if I had it) that the "the law is the law" contingent was going to show up on this thread.

Each person of the contingent has a vest interest in status quo establishment politics. You already know this so I post it for others who may not.

How is it that people and society in general have prospered and increased their well being for decades yet the politicians and bureaucrats say we must have another 3,000 laws and regulations each year... That without them people and society face "disaster". People and society have done quite well without next year's 3,000 new federal laws and regulations. Why all of a sudden can people and society not continue to do quite well without them? The fact is, they'd be better off without 99% of them.

So who really benefits from 3,000 new laws and regulations each year? -- not to mention state laws and regulations. Politicians and bureaucrats. They create boogieman problems and with a complicit media towing their boogieman problems cast a net of false fear and unwarranted despair in people.

Quite literally, they create problems where none exist. They're sick in that they chose to frighten people and foist false despair on them and do that to collect their unearned paychecks. Their job security is predicated on deceiving as many people as possible.

Voting for the lesser of evils always begets evil. How can so many people thinking they're right be so wrong?

Wake up! Politics is not the solution -- politics is the problem.

Who are the producers?
Who are the parasites?
Praise the value producers --
ostracizing the parasitical value destroyers.

What laws do you break on a regular basis?

How many folks can honestly say that they break fewer than 10 laws a day?

When all the laws you don't know about, as well as the contradictory ones are taken into account, I wouldn't be surprised if that number was closer to 100.

If you doubt it, just watch a car driving in front of you for a couple of miles and see how many edicts they break (speeding, not using blinker, etc....).

And just who gets to determine who is allowed to exercise their God given right and who doesn't? The government? You? If you have to ask the government's permission to do something, then it isn't a right any more, it's a privilege, and privileges can be revoked at any time for any reason (or no reason - just the whim of a pompous "we take this very seriously" bureaucrat).

Gun confiscations have always been preceeded by registration. Even in the good ol' USA. NYC forced owners of semi-autos to register them in 1976, and then in 1999 confiscated them. To think that registration will prevent criminals from getting firearms is extremely foolish. Registration will not prevent criminals from obtaining firearms, and is not intended to prevent criminals from getting firearms. It's purpose is solely to allow the government to (unconstitutionally) keep track of the firearms of law abiding citizens for eventual confiscation.

Quite literally, they create problems where none exist

They create the problem, manipulate the reaction, and then propose the solution (which invariable consists of more tyranny). That "solution" then creates more problems and the cycle repeats.

Problem. Reaction. Solution.

You assume he knew of your State's lunacy before he made the commitment to move.
I will accept that for the moment, and will say before you do: "Ignorance of the Law is no excuse."

It does raise an interesting point: Reciprocity between States.
When I moved from Louisiana to Georgia, the State of Georgia respected my Louisiana license to operate a private vehicle, and granted me a grace period for changing over to a Georgia license for that activity, during which my LA licence was considered valid in Georgia and honorable as such.
This is the common manner of amity between the several States, the common courtesy afforded American citizens.
It seems that New York chooses to hold itself above this courtesy.
It seems to me that Governor Jeb Bush might wish to consider reminding the State of New York that failure of reciprocity can cut both ways. He could, for example, declare that ALL New York State drivers' licences are invalid within the borders of the State of Florida until such a time as the State of New York decides to honor Florida gun licenses.

Not to mention, that most of the world considered (and still considers) men like Jefferson, Adams, Otis, Washington, Henry, etc.... to be "lunatics".

And when they change the laws so that the guns that you currently own, will you just be a good little comrade and hand them over? Or will that be the point that you decide to get some balls and stand up to the unconstitutional gun laws that exist in NY City?

This man was in the process of registering the gun! WTF about that don't you understand? He had moved from FL where the gun was legal! What's he supposed to do with it in the meantime? Get your head out of your a$$ and realize that the government isn't always right and we have to stand up for what is!!!!!
