George Washington could be removed from the flag of the state that bears his name, with local Democrats accused of a woke plot to erase him from history.
Washington state lawmakers want to redesign their current emblem from 1923 that sees the United States' first president's face sit in the center of a green background.
Progressive Dem politicians Strom Peterson, Julia Reed and Greg Nance introduced House Bill 1938
They want the existing flag to be ditched for a more 'representative' design
In a post on Olympia Time, O'Connell wrote: 'We all know that symbols matter. Without much prompting, we can all think of negative controversies about symbols.
'No one would fly a Trump flag from their truck while honking annoyingly through downtown Olympia (This happens more often than you’d think) if symbols didn’t matter.'
He added: 'Let’s seize this moment to create a flag that reflects the beauty, diversity, and spirit of Washington. After all, symbols matter, and so do we.'
But some of O'Connell's readers took aim at calls for a new flag and claimed they were politically-motivated.
'Spend your time while there in Olympia resolving the issue of gangs and the exploding crime problem amongst the young,' commenter Bruce Heyduck wrote.
'You crazy people don’t care about what the citizens of Washington think! We want law enforcement, bad people in jail/prison.'
'What drivel, uninspired, unoriginal, politically spun nonsense,' a third commenter wrote: 'There is no flag that these virtue signallers could make that would be better.'
And a fourth commenter called Curtis M said: 'What’s the matter with the flag not enough color, maybe a rainbow in the background , drag queens to represent the state’s standing on DEI and LGTBQ+'
George Washington has become a villain to some progressives in recent years because he owned slaves.

Years ago, when we lived on the East Hill area of unincorporated Kent, a friend from Illinois came out and we were driving around the area. He asked why there were so many road signs that showed the Washington profile. I responded that in Illinois most state road signs showed a profile of Lincoln, and maybe there was a similarity. It took him a few years to get over it, after he realized what I meant.

Soooo, what you Libs are saying is that it is totally okay to change names and symbols in the modern era... and so Pres Trump renaming the Gulf of America is perfectly fine, given your affinity for name changes. Right?

The State of Washington should change it’s name to the Syate of Marx. It us a disgrace to George Washington to have his name on that State.
What an amazing story and what an amazing man. I had never heard of George Bush before and really enjoyed his history, the trials and tribulations he endured, and his successes. It's amazing that he helped so many pioneers to the Puget Sound area that the first state legislature urged Congress to pass a national law protecting Mr. Bush's property. The "1846 Treaty of Oregon" resolved the U.S.-British boundary dispute by giving the territory south of the 49th parallel to the U.S. It brought what is now Washington State under the Oregon Territory laws that denied rights to African Americans. The law was passed in Congress assured Mr. Washing title to the land he had settled and cultivated. The law an be read at the Library of Congress, George Bush. (To accompany Bill H.R. No. 707.) The last 5 acre remnant of the original 640 acre Bush Prairie Farm is still operating today. Mark and Kathleen Clark bought the land in 2009 and grow vegetables, tend the orchard trees, and protect the land.
Yeah, I don’t understand why they don’t just demand that the name be changed, if they don’t like Washington.

They need to go all-in and be rid of that dead white guy completely. Let’s start a petition to re-name the state “Mandela”. And take all the property owned by white folks like they are planning to do in South Africa.
When they got rid of the “Redskins”, some commentators took it even further and referred to them as “The Nation’s Capital Football Team”.
That flag literally just killed my appetite!
Does this mean they are going to be just The Commanders Football Team?
How about renaming it “Transylvania”?
