Female caller tells her abortion story: ‘The most painful experience of my life’

Recently, a woman called in to The Michael Knowles show and left a message detailing her traumatic abortion experience. Her story serves as a reminder that though the ability to kill one’s preborn child has roundly been celebrated as “freedom,” abortion regret is real.

The woman, who explained that she is in her fifties, said that when she was 41, she sought an abortion.

“I got pregnant, and this is embarrassing, but I was addicted to drugs, and my doctor said, ‘How dare you bring a baby into this world, when you’re addicted to drugs? It’s going to be damaged,'” the woman said.

She then describes feeling bad that she had angered the doctor, and asked him instead if he would help her go to detox, but he told her it was “out of his purview.” Feeling that she had no other options, she went and got an abortion, telling the abortionist that she wanted to stay awake during the procedure — so she would never do it again.

At this point in her story, the woman started crying. “There was a red medical trash can, and I watched him throw my baby in the trash, and it was the most painful experience of my life.”

The caller further described being “herded” into the waiting room after the abortion, noting that all the girls inside were very young, and they were crying.

“The place put boxes of tissues out, and now I look back at how disgusting that was, that they knew how hard it was and they put boxes of tissue out.”

The woman concluded her call by saying she could never have children again, which also means she now has no grandchildren. “People don’t tell you about that — that you regret not having grandchildren.”

Though sad, the woman’s story is an important one; as Knowles pointed out, abortion regret stories are almost never shared in the media.

“What you’ve just told to a lot of people, a lot of people haven’t heard that. People don’t hear that part,” he said, addressing the woman. “They hear about how abortion is ‘freedom’ and ‘you’re going to feel really great’ and ‘you need this, it’s the American dream.’ It sounds like the American nightmare to me. This gravely damaged your life, to say nothing of the life of your child…At the very least, I think [your story] is very helpful to others as a warning.”

Live Action has compiled a number of other stories of abortion regret as part of its Can’t Stay Silent campaign. Resources for anyone seeking healing after an abortion can be found here.

Her life was admittedly a train wreck she wasn’t managing on any level. Not surprising she made yet another terrible decision during this time. Many of these decisions have lifelong consequences that aren’t reversible.

I hope she does seek forgiveness from God. If she does, she’ll be reunited with her baby.

If the unborn is as much as a human life as I am, then it was premeditated murder. The law should hold her and the abortionist for trial.

And if your name is Uma Thurman? Some people are proud of it.

Adoption is the answer. How does a woman move ahead with her life knowing she was the best parent her child could have but gave it up? She will go to sleep every knight crying. Abort the baby and she can sweep the issue under the rug and feel the same guilt but only when it’s convenient.
