Wife of Miami cop dies after she gets trapped for hours in the back of his police SUV

We're working to get more details on this story and will update it as soon as we know more. BY MIAMI HERALD

The wife of a veteran Miami police officer died after she was trapped for much of a sweltering afternoon in the back seat of his patrol SUV at the family’s Miami Shores home, authorities confirmed on Monday.

Investigators are treating the death of Clara Paulino, 56, on Friday as a horrific accident. Detectives suspect that Paulino — as her husband slept inside the home after finishing a midnight shift — climbed into the backseat of his marked Ford Explorer SUV in search of something, then could not escape when the doors somehow closed and a self-locking mechanism kicked in.

As the temperature outside soared well over 90 degrees on Friday, Paulino spent several hours stuck inside the SUV until her family discovered her body after 5 p.m., according to one law-enforcement source. Miami-Dade detectives found her fingerprints all over the inside of the SUV.

“Clearly, she was panicked and trying to get out,” the source told the Miami Herald.

The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office is still investigating, and has not ruled on a cause or manner of death. Paulino, according to a law enforcement source, had a history of medical problems that may have contributed to her death inside the SUV.

something doesn’t smell right with this story., Why would she climb in the backseat of his patrol car and Close the Door??

Really? Because I don’t believe in knee jerk responses to a tragic one off accident?

In the history of police cars, how many officers wives have crawled into the back seat and shut the door resulting in death?

According to a recent Bureau of Police Justice survey, there are about 310,000 police vehicles in America.

Assuming an alarm costs $250 to install (just guessing on the number but I highly doubt it would be any less, that $77,500,000 to outfit every cruiser with an alarm to prevent another a one off tragic accident.

It was an accident that could not have been anticipated. Reactionary ideas for an issue that will likely never ever happen again are silly.

If it was actually an accident. Perhaps there is more to the story.

You downplay the value of a human life. It would take nothing more than a push button and a software addition to the PCM. And considering that you are so unwilling to let other people not have an opinion that values life then it is you who does not belong here.

Not really though. It’s called humor.

Not reading the article is a FReeper tradition that goes back long before you joined.

There’s no reason, really, just because that’s how we roll.

See posts 17-24.

These posts fully explain why Freepers rarely click the link.

Who wants to read clickbait articles with cookies, pop-ups, banners, ads, videos, and worse?

Smart FReepers will post enough of an excerpt to tell the story so that others will not have to suffer the consequences of clicking the link.

Don’t think you want that kind of tool stashed in the back of a police car, where the perps would be detained.

Would this be a way you could murder someone? How could you e sure a neighbor wouldn’t walk by and see her in the car?

No, as I said later, I would want it handy where a policeman or his family could pick it up before climbing into the back seat. This is not the first accident in the back of a car/van that I have heard about related to heat death and inability to get out.

Not to mention other occasions when a person needs to get out of the car and the doors can’t be opened. My Dad was a paramedic-he bought me a buck knife and glass cutting/breaking tool for Christmas so I could cut off the seat belt and break out the glass if I needed to. I kept it in a drawer in the middle of the van so that I could access it easier.

Woman don’t carry cell phones in their pockets.

I do.

I hate purses with a passion but they are a necessary evil.

I’m always losing stuff in the bottom of it.

If they won't let you view, you can shut the ad blocker off for that site. Your choice.
