The debate surrounding hip-hop artist Commons participation in the White Houses poetry evening has advocates on both sides. But would uninviting him have unintended consequences?
On Mondays On the Record, anchored by guest host Martha MacCallum, Keli Goff of TheLoop21.com made the case that if Common were banned 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, then the Pope could be as well.
But can I just say from this line of reasoning, right, the Pope wouldnt be welcome in the White House because he presided over one of the biggest pedophilia scandals in American history, right? From that logic is what youre saying, people shouldnt be welcome
MacCallum called Goffs assertion, absolutely ridiculous.
If you were inviting, you know, students to talk about religion, OK and you wanted to have religious leaders from around the world, you would include the Pope in that group, would you not? MacCallum asked.
That led to this exchange:
GOFF: Im posing it to you. Do think he belongs there or not? Because I think hes controversial.
MACCALLUM: I I find that
GOFF: You dont think the popes controversial?
MACCALLUM: No, I find it ridiculous! The Pope these words
GOFF: There are victims of abuse who would disagree with that.

What hate these liberals spew.
Supposing (purely for the sake of argument although I don’t for a moment believe things went down that way) the current pope when a bishop knew about ongoing child abuse by specific priests and simply nodded and winked.
To do something analogous to what this Common riffraff did, he’d have to write a song about it and promulgate it all over the church.
Clearly this fails the laugh test.
Keli is incapable of distinguishing between presiding over and approving of. And that ain’t all . . . but it’s enough.
I doubt that some people would’ve been happy if Lincoln had lived.
Clueless
Funny - I never heard the Pope talk about killing cops....
Martha McCallum seemed to recognize something wrong with the comparison of Rapper Common to the Pope, but could only offer a full bore sputtering spew of nothing meaningful having just had her head handed to her. Sheeeesh.
Why does FOX let airheads like this Keli on in the first place? And then there is the Mendez girl who supports anything liberal good or not..and BOR and letting on Colmes..eeegggaaaddddsss...I don’t know how Monica Crowley can stand sitting next to that so called brother in law of hers.
What an incrediable ignorant thing she said. So I guess if we are going to look at thigns that way then we should hold Obama responsile for all of the school teachers who have abused kids? They outnumber preist about 1000 to 1 in abuse.
I could care less if the Pope or any other religious leader ever set foot in the WH. Since the early days of VN various denominations and religious leaders have inserted their noses into national and foreign policy way too often and in ways not favorable to the Constitution and U.S. domestic and foreign policy.
The Pope and other religious leaders are in a slightly different category than a phoney street rapper who grew up pampered and rich but if that’s what is proposed then that means that Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and the other race pimping religious leaders should be barred as well. No Imams either.
I personally don’t have much love/respect for the Catholic reglion. Its been the gensis of far too much suffering and and exploitation for hundreds of years. But it hasn’t, of late at least, glorified/celebrated the assault of our social mores or the killing of those charged with the duty of enforcing our constitutional laws. “Common” has.
Moreover, one has to question the timing of his invite, coming in close proximity to a national day of rememberence of police officers that gave their lives in duty. is this yet another “in your face whitey “ Obama moment ?
Our President has shown a distinct racial bias in how he directs his administration’s policies. Obviously he has decided his tenure is license to “rectify” alleged “racial abuses” by forestalliing prosecutions of adjudicated cases, failures to prosecute blatent racial attacks, and to open the public purse to patently fradulent claims based upon race.
Why should we expect an administration that’s shown itself to be classless, clueless, and blatently racist - in fact, deed, and appointment - to respect the social mores of the majority. >PS
I'd like permission to use that as a tagline.
Pretty please?
</sarcasm>
I just didn't want to have you think that I am a tagline thief.
I stole mine.
