"One of the world's oldest democracies is at the center of Western Europe's most divisive political debate: to embrace an increasingly globalized, multicultural society or to retreat into social isolation in an effort to preserve eroding traditional identities. " I'm ready to isolate. Good luck to the Swiss.

Switzerland, like every other nation on earth, has the right to regulate the inward movement of people across her borders in *any* way she chooses...even if it means that *no* foreigners are allowed into the country.

Across Switzerland, anti-foreigner and anti-Islamic attitudes have become so pervasive on the streets, in politics and within governmental institutions that the United Nations, European Union, Amnesty International and Switzerland's own Federal Commission Against Racism have expressed alarm in recent months. Onw would think that the EU would save its "alarm" for the riots started by followers of the ROP in France, the UK,Denmark,Holland and elsewhere.

From the article.....
"In Switzerland, each local community determines who among its immigrants will be granted citizenship. In many towns and villages, public votes are taken among citizens."
Also, the article mentions that in Switzerland the local COMMUNITY decides WHO will become a citizen...sometimes by a public vote......Hmmmmm....Interesting.

Disgusting how the Washington Post takes a story of a couple of murderous men to taint a legitimate political party trying to control illegal immigration. What the blindingly ignorant at the Post don’t understand is if the rule of law is not applied to immigration, it sends a signal that lawless anarchy is a legitimate alternative to solving the problem.

Switzerland was an island of Democracy and civiliation during WWII. It may well become such an island again in the war on terror in Europe.
Given that Muslims lie as a matter of faith and doctrine, this guy was probably beat up in a bar fight and is now trying to make something dramatic out of it.

Every day, in a different paper, the MSM continues its jihad against the good Swiss people, portraying them as racist maniacs trying to put Nazi laws into effect. Saturday it was the TimesUK, Sunday it was the NYT, today the WP. Who will it be tomorrow?

That story smells. Unidentified hooded men, maybe they were immigrants too.

“to embrace an increasingly globalized, multicultural society or to retreat into social isolation in an effort to preserve eroding traditional identities.”
Are these the only choices?
To “embrace a multiculteral society” or “retreat into isolation”?
How about embracing traditional society and rejecting multicultural invasions? Like that better.

Can no ‘journalist” write a story concerning immigration of third worlders to the West without the personal story of victims of racism, xenophobia, or the sob stories of separated families?
But what did anyone expect allowing policies or illegal immigration to build up to foreigners becoming 20% of the population? And we should keep in mind that this is almost exclusively a one-way deal. Westerners are not moving by the thousands and millions to live in the third world. The West someday will no longer be the West, but the third world nations will still be mostly third world nations.
Third world poverty can’t be solved by allowing almost open border into the West, but huge areas of the West can definitely be turned into third outposts.

The excerpt above makes this seem to have been a racist action.
I suspect that it is more of an anti Islamic sentiment that is fomenting such hostility.

... more than one in five people living in Switzerland are foreign-born, ...
When the new-comers get above a certain level (not sure what that level is) it is no longer immigration, but invasion.
