I read that people with severe osteoporosis - all it takes is something minor to break their bones. Could she have developed it from not moving enough? Inactivity causes bones to become brittle I think.

Inactivity, and lack of weight bearing through the skeleton is a likely cause.

She could even do it with simple turning, or rotation through the spine, it's that brittle.
