Cochise officials investigating 2 Minutemen

Illegal entrant taped holding 'caught' T-shirt By Michael Marizco ARIZONA DAILY STAR

PALOMINAS - Cochise County officials said they are investigating two Minuteman volunteers after an illegal entrant complained Wednesday to authorities that he was held against his will.

One of the men paid the illegal entrant $20 and gave him a T-shirt to hold up while he filmed the encounter. The T-shirt read: "Bryan Barton Caught an Illegal Alien and all I got was this T-shirt," said Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff's Department.

It's the first encounter where an illegal entrant has filed a complaint against Minuteman Project volunteers since the monthlong controversial protest started Friday. Volunteers have gathered in Southern Arizona to protest what they said is the federal government's inability to control the border.

Critics said the encounter is the first sign that the Minuteman Project is a "sham" meant to humiliate illegal entrants.

The incident started Wednesday afternoon when Barton, 24, and a second Minuteman volunteer encountered the illegal entrant on Arizona 92 near Palominas, Capas said.

Barton said he gave the man the T-shirt and $20 plus food and water. Then he filmed the man holding up the T-shirt.

The volunteers then called the Border Patrol, which sent agents to pick up the entrant. Once in custody, the entrant complained about being held by the volunteers.

"It was supposed to be funny," Barton said about the encounter.

Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever didn't think so.

"We have no time or patience for anyone attempting to turn this situation into a three-ring circus," he said.

The Cochise County Attorney's Office is also investigating the complaint.

Barton, who is running for Congress in San Diego on the Republican ticket, said he's not worried about charges being filed and that he never held the man against his will.

He said deputies seized the video for evidence. No arrests have been made in the incident.

"This shows what we've been saying all along," said Jennifer Allen, director of the Border Action Network.

"It was nothing but a media sham to mislead the public," she said. "Clearly they misrepresented the situation. They misrepresented themselves."

Minuteman Project organizers Chris Simcox and James Gilchrist could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

I suspect a great many things are incomprehansible to you. That's not my problem, it's yours.

Now that is a compelling argument.

How should I know what the MMP knew about this guy? They have over 1000 volunteers, and you found one place where this obviously publicity seeking individual was credited as being an organizer. I haven't seen his name anywhere among the things the MMP has published for the past 3 months, so it is possible that he is being consistennt with his glory seeking tendencies and lying about that.

Should be. Those three posts are the very thing CGB and other criminal alien enablers are denying happens.

As for you, no response to post 151? Care to post a retraction of your characterization of Rep. Tancredo's plan?

Yeah... I didn't think so.

I don't appreciate the obvious baiting.

How exactly do you define this 'baiting'? And if you know it exists or is being done, doesn't it render the effort moot? It seems to me, your side considers baiting anyone who disagrees with you, yet won't resort to name calling.

You've choosen to speak for them on other issues. Why do you take a pass on this? Too hard to defend?

No, I consider it baiting when I post what would on a normal thread be considered at least a semi-thoughtful post and all I get back is the same smarmy passive-aggressive innuendo and broad brushing from the same 3 individuals that have made themselves a reputation for such on any thread about illegal aliens for the past several months.

You(dead corpse) advocate round-ups and deportations.

Your only argument against those who advocate a guest worker program is to call them open borders advocates.

Tom Tancredo, your daddy, has advocated a guest worker program.

Ergo, Tancredo advocates open borders

Especially since illegal labor redid Tancredo's basement. If he was true to his rhetoric he would invite the TV cameras into his basement so they could record him destroying his basement, done by impure labor.

Not really. The exchanges we've had over the past few days convince me that you are completely sincere about this exercise. They've also convinced me that you are a great deal more well grounded than some of the other's that post or support these calls for murder(Odoso, Dead Corpse). Plus, you're actually out there walking the walk. So, for what it's worth, I have a begrudging respect for you, and I know that an incident like this has to be very disappointing to you given all the effort you've put in. You know I don't agree with the effort, and reserve my right to be critical, but I have respect for you as a person.

Well, at least we've come that far.

To further continue rational debate could I get you to a.)stop calling the Minuteman Project the MMK? Everyone knows that the K modifier means "Klan" as in Ku Klux Klan. It is your attempt to smear the Minuteman Project volunteers as racists and it is not conducive to civil debate. And b.)instead of focusing only upon the wildest charges thrown by the hostile leftist media, could you start trying to see the positive effects of this exercise?

For what it's worth, I've seen many unfortunate calls for machine-gunning, lynching, etc. illegal aliens on Free Republic. I've heard NONE, zero, nada of the same similar stuff from Minuteman Project participants. By that measure, Free Republic is far worse than the Minuteman Project volunteers. I'm not bashing Free Republic, I'm just pointing out a fact. Both Free Republic and the Minuteman Project police stuff like that and will rightfully remove the offenders. But if you're going to judge fairly, you need to keep that in mind. You can't condemn either group for the few who might be bad apples.

Funny thing about that Tancredo legislation.

Even though there are at least 2 members of the Senate wno follow Tancredo, they never bothered introducing his bill into the senate.

Don't waste your time arguing with those who are agents of a foreign government, with an interest in promoting a parasitic relationship with America. What's the point?

"You couldn't beat the Mexicans lead by brother Santa Anna at the Alamo - You're certainly not going to beat Mara Salvatrucha with a bunch of fat old ex-supply sergeants."

I speak for me. Period. I am not affiliated with any group from the Republican party to the MMP to the ACLU. I am an individual expressing my own thought and observations.

You post is a perfect example of the smarmy passive aggressive childish thread baiting that has thankfully resulted in the expulsion of your numbers. You are not interested any an intellectually honest debate. You just want to bait and smear.

Have at it.

How can we expect the MMK's to protect our border if they can't even protect their own perimeter against guys like this?

Now you are saying that we SHOULD protect the borders?

You don't even think that there is a problem!
