Don't you mean "Pontius Pilate", late Roman procurator of Judaea? As in, "Lucius Pontius Pilatus"?

Yes, that is correct.

GOPcapitalist recently compared Jeb Bush to Pontius Pilate, the man who ordered Jesus Christ to be crucified. Hard to see how someone could morally accuse others of 'Bush bashing' after making those comments, wouldn't you agree?

It seems that garbage truck is flaunting that he's caught cap'n crunch's stalker VD. Needless to say, the post he is referencing was on a Terri Schaivo thread where I defended the logical propriety of a Pilate analogy made by another poster, who was being attacked for making it with straw man arguments. The other poster was being accused of elevating Terri Schaivo to be a personification of Jesus when he/she did nothing of the sort, but rather simply likened Jeb Bush's decision not to intervene against Greer to Pilate's washing of his hands. The entire point of the Pilate story, of course, was that even though he claimed his innocence in Christ's blood by announcing as much and his symbolic washing of the hands, Pilate committed the sin of omission and thus his guilt existed in spite of his claims - essentially the same thing determined at the council of Nicaea when the guilt question arose.

As the other poster indicated by way of analogy, Jeb was committing a sin of omission by failing to intervene and claiming to have exhausted his options in respect for the decrees of Judge Greer, even if they were wrong. Whatever one thinks of Jeb Bush, the analogy never intended to equate Schaivo with Jesus as was originally misrepresented and as garbage_truck continues to misrepresent today. Furthermore, the comparison of a sin of omission is sound in act, even if not in degree. It's also a likely political reality that Jeb's inaction will cost him among the pro-life base should he seek another office.

Of course knowing what we do about garbage_truck's own political beliefs, his real gripe is very likely with the fact that pro-lifers impeded the killing of Terri Schaivo for as long as they did. He did, after all, oppose the impeachment of Bill Clinton and declare that the communist party was a "legitimate political organization," so it's not at all unreasonable to expect that garbage_truck also sides with the merchants of death occupying the Michael Schiavo household and a certain Florida courtroom.

Excuse me, I thought Pontius Pilate was the man who washed his hands -- the Sanhedrin crying out, "His blood be upon us and our children!" Consulting the original text, Sanctum Jesu Christi Evangelium Secundum Matthaeum,

27:20 Principes autem sacerdotum et seniores persuaserunt populis ut peterent Barabbam, Iesum vero perderent. Respondens autem praeses ait illis: Quem vultis vobis de duobus dimitti? At illi dixerunt: Barabbam. Dicit illis Pilatus: Quid igitur faciam de Iesu, qui dicitur Christus. Dicunt omnes: Crucifigatur. Ait illis praeses: Quid enim mali fecit? At illi magis clamabant dicentes: Crucifigatur.

There's your authoritative text, right there, which you ought to consult before making rash attributions of responsibility. Pilate handed Jesus over to the priest-led mob, who decided his fate.
