I've figured out that the place I live is too boring to attract the attention of major calamities, except for politicians.
This works well for me, as I've come to enjoy the boring life. I can get excited over inconsequentialities just like a kid.
Speaking of which, they've opened up a new ice-cream place nearby -- Woo-Hoo!
