We moved into a place with carpeted bathrooms once. The first thing we did was tear out the carpet to install vinyl. It worked fine in the downstairs bathroom, but when we got upstairs, we found that, since the carpet was never dry, the subflooring had rotted out, and the whole bathroom was about to fall into the kitchen! We had to get two new layers of subflooring, and then the vinyl. At least (we said, as the costs went up and up) it was OUR subflooring!
I can't think of anything stupider than putting carpeting near a bathtub/shower and toilet. Haven't these people ever seen boys use the pot?
Ugggghhhh.
We bought our place from a little old widow lady with no grand-kids handy.
For HER, carpeting in the latrine was probably FINE.
(And if she was neater in the kitchen than me, carpeting in the kitchen may have worked, too.)
Oh well.
Got ceiling fans in most of the rooms, now.
that's a step up.
