A member of the civilian border patrol group Ranch Rescue was arrested in Douglas this morning on charges stemming from a Texas illegal imprisonment case, an FBI spokeswoman said. Casey Nethercott was picked up by FBI agents and Douglas Police officers and charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, Herskovitz said.
Ranch Rescue is currently conducting patrols on a private ranch in Douglas. The Texas-based group started Arizona operations earlier this year.
Nethercott is accused of pistol whipping and holding an El Salvadoran couple against their will in March. The immigrants were set free because the U.S. Border Patrol didn't respond to Ranch Rescue's calls, the organization said at the time of the incident.
Douglas police assisted the FBI during today's arrest, said Det. Mark Wilkinson of the Douglas Police Department.
Police arrested Nethercott, then turned him over to the FBI.
Herskovitz did not know what Nethercott was doing in the Douglas area but Ranch Rescue has conducted several operations there.
Ranch Rescue members often wear camouflage and carry weapons.
Immigrant rights activists consider them the most extreme among several patrol groups.
A spokesman for Ranch Rescue, Jack Foote, said Nethercott's arrest was news to him.
"My understanding is that his attorney was ill and working to get those charges removed," Foote said.
Ranch Rescue's operations in Douglas are now aimed at constructing a facility to house volunteers for future operations.
Foote's organization is contributing the labor and the ranch owner is contributing the materials, agreeing to allow Ranch Rescue members to stay there for future operations.

Must be bad people. Yes, felons are bad.
Lots of border jockeys (illegals) getting thrown in the can lately. They deserve it.
Those who defend them are hypocrites.

FYI...he's not a troll. He's been posting since 2000...not that that means anything. Troll isnt the word, A pro-illegal immigration, pro-mexican economy, pro-amnesty for illegals (specially from me-hic-KOH), anti-border patrol, anti-enforcement of immigration law, bleeding heart latino is a better description.

Some day, it will come to "shoot, shovel, and shut up" if our government continues to REFUSE to protect our borders.

And then you'll be complaining about members of private border patrols vanishing.
"Shoot, shovel, and shut up" cuts both ways.

Ranch Rescue is stupid, stupid, STUPID. There is no way that private border groups can do more than make a tiny dent in the flood of illegals coming across the border. But the best thing groups such as American Border Patrol do is to publicize the border problems and embarrass politicians into doing something (witness the recent crackdown in Cochise County and the use of drones by the government to look for illegals). That is the right way to approach this problem. Ranch Rescue, however, crosses the line, both by breaking the law by illegally arresting folks and by promoting a Rambo-like vigilante image that plays right into the hands of the pro-illegal crowd.

A few questions on this:
Mr. Nethercott was arrested now on charges stemming from a purported action made eight months ago in Texas? Was the flight-from prosecution charge added because he went to Arizona or were authorities just waiting for him to leave Texas just to lay that charge on him?
Ranch Rescue volunteers their help to private property owners tired of the endless stream of illegal aliens who trespass on their land, often leaving pollution and damages behind. They apprehended a couple and had to release them due to no response from Federal authorities (admitted to by the feds themselves). If any abuses occurred why would Ranch Rescue want the authorities to take control of the aliens when it would have served anyone guilty of abuse to release the aliens without notification?
How can Ranch Rescue be considered extremist when they are helping citizens protect whats theirs when the government cant or wont?
This reeks of MALDEF, La Raza and the other malodorous malcontents who seek to remove all border control.
Why was this thread moved to Back Room? This issue needs as much activism as it can get without treating it like someones special uncle who is only allowed plastic utensils.

How can Ranch Rescue be considered extremist when they are helping citizens protect whats theirs when the government cant or wont? Easy. They break the law and act like a bunch of Rambo-wannabees. I suggest you read up on American Border Patrol, which operates within the law in a low-key manner which achieves results, namely embarassing the feds into enforcing the law and patrolling the border.
