My memory is that husband started the Atkin's between dr. visits....so dr. didn't know about it...
Here it is!!!! HDL up, LDL down, and triglc. down....dr. said he could stop taking Tricor! but to still take the small bp dose he is taking as it couldn't hurt...
Husband had already been taking off Lipitor because of potential liver damage...
Get this: Dr. said long-term effects of all those eggs and meat not known...!!
What? All indicators, after about 10 years of medication, are finally positive & in the normal range, and he's worried about the long-term effect of eggs and bacon?????!!!
Congratulations to Mr. MP for his great blood test. He must have studied pretty hard for that test.
Your doctor's response sounds typical. As smart as most doctors are, they do tend to have a bit of a herd mentality. They can see the evidence for themselves, but unless all their peers come out in favor of it, they'll hold back.
I guess there's an upside to that kind of thinking, too. You can't imagine the kind of weirdness and lack of common sense guides some people.
It does make you more sympathetic to the battle that Dr. Atkins has waged himself, doesn't it? Even a year ago when 48 Hours did a pretty positive report on his diet, they played up his personal wealth and stoked a little class envy, in my opinion. I look at him and think his money speaks of a very successful and determined person, rather than looking at him and automatically branding him as a fraud because he didn't get his money through a government grant.
