I realize this is old stuff, and I'm probably posting after someone already answered your question correctly, but, I gotta say something.

That stuff looks like parts of the emergency evacuation system for the international space station! I don't know it's purpose, but it could be.

I'll read on down the thread and see what the real purpose is, I hope.
