Well, our west coast along the ocean, is very, very rugged and wild especially down in Oregon...I guess its kind of like our mountains here, being so much more tall and rugged and wild, simply because they are newer than the mountains of the east....I guess perhaps the same is true of the ocean coast....

That being said, I am positive that the east coast along the Atlantic, will be just as beautiful and spectacular as along the Pacific here...each area, has its own special charms and special features, that dont exist in other areas...

Here is a little something that often irks me tho...it has to do with Hollywood, and how they often will set a particular movie or TV series in a certain locale, but then film the scenery from a completely different area...that really aggravates me, because I enjoy seeing the scenery from everywhere, and I really do like the scenery to be authentic....

Two examples come to mind...'Murder she Wrote' the TV series with Angela Lansbury, is supposed to take place in Cabot Cove, Maine...the folks talk with New England accents, and we are led to believe that the scenery is actually from there...but thats not true....All of the scenery in 'Murder She Wrote' from the ocean views, the overhead view of the bridge going into Cabot Cove, even the supposedly town of Cabot Cove itself, are really filmed in Mendocino California...anyone who has been to Mendocino, recognizes all the scenery and the stores from having been there....

Another example of this is 'The Deerhunter', which is supposed to take place on a mill town in Pennsylvania...Now I think the scenes in the town and the magnificent church where the wedding takes place, are actually scenes from a town in Pennsylvania....but after the wedding, the guys take off for a few days of deer hunting in the mountains, presumably the mountains of Pennsylvania....but in fact, the deer hunting and mountain scenes, are shot north of me, up in the Northern Cascades Park of Washington....granted the mountains of Western Washington are more rugged and more spectacular than the older, more subdue mountains of Pennsylvania, still I would have preferred more authenticity, and would have loved to have seen the mountains of Pennsylvania...

I love the 'Murder She Wrote' series, and loved the movie, 'The Deerhunter', and I suppose I am nitpicking here, but its just a little quirk of mine...I prefer for real authentic flavor to my TV and movie view, but I guess the poducers and directors prefer to go for more spectacular, rather than for more authentic...

I do enjoy seeing Mendocino, and seeing the Northern Cascades Park, as I know them well(especially Mendocino, as its one of my favorite places to shop and visit in California)...but they always seem out of place, when I see them in the programs I talked about...

The United States, in every state, has something grand and beautiful to offer those who will look for it...

Mom.. I agree with you wholeheartedly.. I loved Murder She Wrote.. but the accents drove me crazy.. They do not talk like that in Maine or anywhere else in New England.. They overdue everything..make it grander per se... It is supposed to take place in Cabots Cove, which in reality is Camden Me..

Mark it on your list of places to go.. My very fav town in Me..including Bar Harbor. It is without doubt, glorious.. Go down to the wharves early in the morning with a cup of coffee on a cool fall day, and you will think you died and went to heaven if it happens to be a Sunday to boot.. All the Church Bells in the town are ringing, the water is like glass.. and the fishing boats are silently leaving the harbor.. It is sublime...

Cabot Cove it isn't.. The lingo...it isn't.. The people in Camden Me. mostly have bucks.. It's one of the most sought after communities to live in Me.. Please... don't miss it.. and try to plan on a Sunday... You won't regret it.. You'll also want a camera.. Winter, summer or fall.. Camden is wonderful... You'll love every house in town... Most of them painted white, and so many with dark green shutters.. Real New England.. Crisp white tie-back or cris-crossed Organdy curtains in the windows.. I've never had time to park there in the winter, but it must be glorious then too..

Your mountains are more rugged, but don't forget the worst weather in the country is recorded on Mount Washington.. Highest winds ever recorded I believe..but the mountains are more gentle for sure..but treacherous still.

So you see.. movies and TV shows do upset me when they are not indicitive of the places they are supposed to represent.. I like to see the real places and hear the real, or at least close to it, accents..

Otherwise they all remind me of Habs... lol lol ..
