The first and only Dean Koontz novel I read was based on how addicted people are to their computers. Eventually each and every user's hands bonded to and became part of his/her keyboard and eventually everyone died that way and was covered with cobwebs. I didn't even have a computer then but he's such a good writer, I remember the eeriness still! I'm with you: online = out of touch with surroundings. LOL
