Anakin Skywalker, the iconic character from the Star Wars saga, has gained renewed prominence on social media as growing numbers of users identify him with social disillusionment, distrust of institutions and rejection of political elites.
The phenomenon has raised concerns among some analysts, who warn that his image could be appropriated to spread extremist narratives.
For some internet users, Anakin represents a talented young man who feels betrayed by the institutions he once trusted.
His frustration with the Jedi Council has become a metaphor for tensions experienced by certain sections of society, particularly those concerned about illegal immigration, public safety, economic hardship and declining confidence in political leaders.
This identification does not necessarily reflect any particular political ideology, as dissatisfaction with institutions and public policies can be shared by people with very different political beliefs.
The controversy has also reached US government communications after the United States Department of Education used an image of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala alongside the slogan “Make education great again”, an adaptation of the phrase popularised by Donald Trump.

I’m retired and I don’t have enough time on my hands to dream up crap like this.
It’s all about control with them. The very thought that someone, somewhere disagrees with them is wholly unacceptable to them.
So it has to be destroyed. Even if it’s just a stupid internet meme it can’t be tolerated.

Apparently.
Poorly acted? It would have been a tour de force in claymation!
Such crybabies.

I totally agree with you!
Shatner told them to get a life.
Good FN grief! Moronic. Glad I’m a boomer.
So are experts saying that "distrust in institutions" is bad?!
Regards,
I know. The stupid. It burns.

I think you’re missing the point.
For example, Anakin (future Darth Vader) is recruited into a cultist military organization (Jedi) whose job it is to protect a corrupt and crumbling oligarchy (the Republic) that does all sorts of bad things. It allowed his mother to be enslaved, enslaved him, allows massive corruption (the Hutts), murders an entire planet of people (the Mandolorians) simply because they do not wish to be part of the Republic, has a massive war over unfair trade deals, and is generally crappy with no future for anyone.
When he personally has issues (a woman he loves cannot be with him due to rules of his military service and ridged class system - Pademe) he rebels and goes his own way.
The Empire promises order and ridding the galaxy of the yoke of the corrupt system and crime — and does it, albeit with its own corruption and heavy hand.
And he floats along, supposedly an extraordinary person — with no way to improve his lot ands the lot of those he loves.
Young men identify with the hopelessness of his situation.
