No one has any idea what the universe is, how big or small it is, nothing. We only have a glimpse of an idea of a concept of what it might be. We know so little that it makes any meaning we think we have absurd.
If you want to make an over confident modern physicist squirm, ask him what consciousness is, what are dark energy and matter, how many dimensions there are, and how does he connect quantum mechanics and relativity.
