President Trump floated the possibility of rebranding Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” in a shot across the bow against Canada’s most populous province — whose premier threatened to cut off electricity and minerals to the US.
“The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we don’t expect to doing much business with Ontario any longer,” Trump declared on Truth Social Tuesday.
On his very first day back in the Oval Office last year, Trump signed an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, a move he frequently boasted about during his first year.
His musing about giving Lake Ontario, which borders upstate New York, the same treatment comes amid a bruising tariff battle with America’s northern neighbor.
Last week, talks broke down between the two sides.
That prompted Trump to impose a steep 50% tariff on a range of Canadian goods — including beer, cheese, electronics, and more.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has vowed to retaliate in kind, while Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who has long been a hardliner on trade, teased plans to make the US feel economic pain.
Ford vowed to the Associated Press that “everything is on the table” if the trade spat worsens, including cutting off electricity and critical minerals from Ontario.
“We power 1.5 million homes and businesses,” the premier said. “Everything’s on the table. I’ll do whatever it takes.”

It can be done - but that doesn’t mean Canada needs to change their name for it - and Trump is making a fool out of himself picking stupid fights like this and wasting even a second on it.
Still hasn’t wrapped up the Ukraine War, got oil prices down, or ended the Iran threat - but is spending time on moronic stunts.
I don’t remember him making this a campaign promise - but I do remember lots of promises he made and hasn’t yet accomplished.
It’s Canadian globalist politicians selling out the Canadian people.
Would you concede the border snapped shut, deportations underway, crime being smashed, Democrats held to account? This is his way of playing hardball with Canada. What would you like to see him do next?

I use the expression “worst case Ontario” as often as I can. It draws perplexed expressions. ( a Rickyism from TPB, the CBC show.)
Who cares, as a Western Canadian I hope he does. It’ll be great watching leftarded heads explode. We’re in dire straits here and have about zero freedom now. We still have our thunder sticks and that’s the only thing stopping them right now and you and I both know they’re working on getting them.

I have no idea about “rickyism,” unless it is related to “I Love Lucy,” but ok. I’m an old fashioned military historian, and we have enough in dealing with the names of locations that have changed over the centuries, due to conquering and/or changes in translation....Peiping vs Peking, for example.
And then there is 1 ton soup that is hard to change into metric.
If Trump really wants to shift opinion, he should say that he deeply respects the great people of Canada, but that their leaders betrayed them by pushing a phony deal that would have re-packaged Made in China and India industrial products with a “Made in Canada” label for phony export to the U.S. “A raw deal...Canadians deserve better” - or something like that. Reagan always did this with the USSR - praising the people and dividing them from their leaders.
The people of Canada are not great. There may be some good Canadians but Canadian polling says that 70% of Canadians agree with Mark Carney and they despise America. So maybe you should get a clue about what’s actually going on.

Yes, we need a new trade agreement with the increasingly wayward Canuks.
This is not the way to get that done.
There are so many freepers just don’t seem to get that. Trump is merely unmasking all these people by doing what he’s doing. It may seem juvenile, but it’s very effective in unmasking these people. The Canadian people’s feelings didn’t change towards America. They were just exposed.
Trump is getting soft. Why not just propose renaming it Lake Trump?
Screw that, let Mexico call it the Gulf of Mexico, we're going to call it the Gulf of America......
