You can take the Hillbilly out of the hills...

Both my wife and I both grew up with chickens. In my case we had 40 acres and a wide variety of other types of farm animals along with cats and dogs. I really could not care less that the ignorant make fun of things that they do not understand, but it is a little sad.

Supervised animal husbandry and other types of 4H projects are very worthwhile pursuits for children especially. This type of activity not only teaches responsibility but gives kids especially a real sense and connection of what our place in the world is. It is far better for them than wasting their time with video games, phones and other electronic trinkets.

The best and most well-balanced young people I know have had these types of experiences and upbringing. Kids who have never gotten their hands dirty working and playing with animals are missing something important in their lives. This deficit is one of the many problems with so many people in our society.

TODAY’S HR LEADERS ARE PUTTING ANY APPLICANT RAISED ON A FARM OR A RANCH AT THE TOP OF ANY OPEN LIST OF POSITIONS.

THEY ALREADY KNOW RESPONSIBILITY
