...I found Nolan’s Oppenheimer movie abrasively angst ridden...

Ayn Rand based her villain Robert Stadler on Oppenheimer. What surprised me was she was assigned the task of making a movie about him , so the studio had her interview him. She wrote a script but the movie obviously was never made .

Oppenheimer in many ways was a jerk! Pompous and arrogant and oh so sure of himself. Is it believable that he was not a communist when his brother, the people\students the socialized with, his wife and girl friend were? There was a scene in the TV series (I think!) where his wife is being interviewed either by Army CI\FBI. The agent\officer asked why she and Oppenheimer’s brother were Communists. Her answer was something like because of the Depression and Hitler all the moral upstanding people they knew were. Implying if you weren’t you were either immoral or too stupid to understand. Typical leftist elitist view that they could run things for the “little people” and create utopia. (Same attitude they have today!) Rand who had to flee such thinking, I’m sure saw right through him. Oppenheimer was lucky he had Groves to protect him.
