Of course not...adults know that. But easing the fears of little kids by telling them they’d be safe under the desk really worked as I remember from 80 years ago.
That was the fifties. Back then, “experts” advised anyone in relatively close proximity to a nuclear bomb explosion should stand up and shake off the radioactive dust.
Our teacher (back then) asked us what we would do if we saw ‘that light’. One of the kids in the class said, “I’d start running so fast...!”
Well, the rest of us burst out laughing, and he WAS serious (duh). It was hilarious, but we had to laugh because in those dark days on Long Island we were a prime target and we knew it.
There’s PLENTY of safety in taking steps to mitigate personal injury from minor structural failure caused by a near miss. Are you not aware that this is standard procedure in earthquake zones?
