There is a certain gaudiness that follows Trump.

I really don't like the ostentatiousness of various European countries, and I don't think we need to look like Europe or the Middle East, to any level of “glam.”

Should the USA be renting a tent to host any official function over 200 guests?

Trump is funding this with private donors.
Relax and try to suffer being gifted.

I don’t know enough about this ballroom thing to form an opinion either way. But I agree with your statement above.

Many Europeans chase after royalty, and all the pomp that goes with it. That’s probably something we should avoid.

I’d like to say more, but I’ve got to read the latest gossip about the Prince of Wales (just kidding there).

Where is the line between gaudy/ostentatious and architectural perfection/elegance? I personally prefer Versailles to an East German apartment complex.

I agree that we should have a “ball room” that meets the standards of the “greatest country in the world.”

But I hate the gold inlay everywhere. It’s possible to have stately without looking like Louis XVI lived here. Most Americans are ostentatious. They like classy without flaunting.

It IS possible to think its necessary, but also understand the next occupant is going to take a chisel to the gold.

We formed this to nation to not be like Europe with their kings and royalty .
Human nature seems to crave having a king.

It appears that the new construction follows the neoclassical style of the original White House.

Agree. His White House decorating and these renderings look more European than American.

So we piss away hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign aid to other countries but we can’t spend some on ourselves?
