I would be VERY hesitant to take this story at face value.

If Zhang Youxia actually gave nuclear secrets to the US he would have been very quietly disappeared. The real reason would NOT have been made public.

Jennifer Zeng on X agrees the accusation is a fabrication.

She says this is a to-the-death type struggle to oust Xi and that the way the "Guns" go may determine outcome.

She claims Xi has never really had full support of the mil.

She talks about each of the 10 "Red" families (original Maoists with vase wealth and power), indicating none of them is particularly loyal to Xi.

Claims outcome of Xi-Zhang Youxia clash cannot yet be predicted. Suggests Trump may have ability to tilt scales, but does not explain further.

I do not think Zhang Youxia was working with the U.S. There were reports he was arrested for other reasons.

The radio show I was listening this after noon said that U.S. Observers...e.g., the NYT, are acting as propaganda outlets for the CCP. They view Xi as a moderate restraining the military. The host said that in reality Xi wants to move on Taiwan and this would be his legacy, but The military, pretty much all of whom he appointed in the last year or so, did not.
