In comparison, the local mall here is devoid of anything I remember from 25 years ago - stores like Sears, JC Penney and Belk, the shoppers, merry-go-round and arcades, sit-down restaurants, etc., are all gone. Although Dillard’s remains, it has become a shabby version of what it was. I absolutely avoid going there.

I watched Wards, Sears, Dillards and Macy’s closing. These were connections back to childhood that are gone. There is a sense of grief associated with it. It has also become harder to go and actually look at merchandise now. J.C. Penny (amazingly) and Walmart are still around.
