I posted a couple pictures on Facebook Free Republic.
I’m trying to find information on my Great Uncle Lt Col Frank Otis Blake.
I would love it if some of our Military Veterans could enlighten me from their perspective on a picture I found. I am not sure it is him but I think it is. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17dqDgqNCu/
My Dad said Uncle Frank was in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was bombed. I am sure his story is interesting.
Don’t have Facebook, so can’t see the pic.
I will have my husband look at it - he is a WWII nerd :-)
Okay - what he says you may have already figured out from the photo.
The date of the photo looks to be August 15, 1944.
USAAF (United States Army Air Forces) - Crew 43
Looks like he was the lead pilot if he is the guy on the far left in back, (speculation) because all of the other men have their jobs/positions listed on the back of the photo.
Looks like the photo was taken at the 714th Railway Operating Battalion - photo taken in Alaska my husband thinks.
The patch design on the arm of the guy bottom right looks like the 6th Air Force.
The type of plane he “may” have flown could have been an A-26 Invader or a B-26 Marauder, based on the size of the crew. Sending you a link which will have a picture of the patch.
Hope this helps a little.
You check this for any leads or corroboration?
