I did join the Descendants of the Mayflower back in the ‘70s. That’s when I lived in Alaska, when Alaska was still on the wild side, and the main objective of everyone was to have fun and not take yourself too seriously. The meetings of the Alaska Chapter were a ball.

Then I moved to the Lower 48 and was going to hook up with the Chapter in MA near Springfield. OHHHH BOY ... do THEY take themselves seriously! The snootiness was hilarious. “You VILL haf no fun!”

So I’m still a member, but don’t go to meetings.

Through Ancestry I have found I could join DAR through many routes. But this is what I have been afraid it would be like. I just enjoy studying the history.

I am one piece of paper away from documenting my lineage back to six signers of the Mayflower Compact. Unfortunately, that one document is proving to be very elusive due to a fire in the 1890s that destroyed documents.
