True. Income from oil and gas leases on state land goes to childhood education (which is failing due to control by the very liberal teacher’s unions and woke/DEI teaching). Overall, state programs including childcare are funded by the O&G industry which provides 35-40 percent of all state revenues. The idiots in Santa Fe (the three branches of state government) absolutely despise the oil and gas industry and each year come up with more ways to hamstring them.
But they absolutely love the money they provide for state coffers. It’s absurd that the revenues exceed state budgets by several billions but the libs dream up more ways to spend it by increasing even more state government and give aways. Why work, when government will provide all your needs? But the cracks are beginning to appear. Thanks to Trump, crude prices are dropping which reduces revenue. To continue to pay for the extravagant programs (including the green newscam), they are looking to raise taxes on gasoline for example and higher fees on business.
Being a blue sanctuary state, crime in major cities is out of control with drugs and illegals a problem; in particular teen criminals receive the proverbial revolving door treatment. Health care, even as heavily subsidized as it is, is a problem especially in rural areas. The main reason is the trial lawyers control the legislative committees and malpractice lawsuits have no cap. Malpractice insurance for doctors is out of reach for many and the good ones retire or leave the state.
