To the liberal mind, which is usually simple and ignorant, there’s only benefits but no costs to a policy.

Reason Magazine in the early 90s published a study on the true cost of the CAFE standards. One of the first things that was done to meet the standards was to reduce the mass of the car.

From the reduced mass, injuries and deaths increased and it was found the costs from these were 5 times the cost of the fuel savings.

The CAFE standards should be abolished and let the owner of the vehicle decide what tradeoff they’d like to make between the safety and efficacy of the vehicle in meeting their needs and fuel efficiency.

Ironically, to avoid regulations imposed on smaller vehicles, it has also led automakers to make their trucks larger and larger, and/or abandoning entire production lines, like Ford did with its sedans.

So in other words, going too far with this resulted in the opposite occurring. Larger vehicles using more gas and fewer fuel efficient, smaller sedan cars.

My Jeep has this idiotic Auto Start-Stop.
This needs to use a secondary battery, which they buried somewhere behind engine.
It cost me $400 to replace this battery.
Even if this feature saved me few $ on gas, it definitely not saved me $400 worth of gas!
And how much did this feature raised the price of the vehicle?
All to fulfill some guv idiot stupid regulation.
Anyway, people do not buy Jeeps for fuel savings!

I would happily buy a pickup with vinyl seats, vinyl mats, vinyl dash, manual transmission, analog gauges AND did not have a mothership it reports to.
