My observation is that shoppers at Trader Joe’s are very good at returning shopping carts. Walmart shoppers tend to be lazy about that.

I wouldn't assume laziness. Trader Joe's has a younger and healthier clientele. Trader Joe's also has smaller parking lots.

I see a lot mostly elderly and infirm folks leave the cart close to their car.

I agree, Traders Joe’s shoppers tend to be more civilized and considerate not just in the parking lot but inside the store,too.
