Well, just call Judge Sarah West and she'll let you off the hook.
As far as the case itself goes, jury foreperson Ben Walfoort is quoted as saying "It was not a difficult decision whatsoever ... Based off of the state's evidence that was presented, it was beyond a reasonable doubt."
Despite the jury swiftly convicting Yusuf, Judge Sarah West last week decided that they got it wrong, overturning the verdict and issuing a judgment of acquittal.

Then what’s the point of even having a jury?
I was always under the impression that it’s the jury that convicts but it’s the judge that sentences.
What’s her cut of the $7.2 million ?

Note to self, we have that pesky thing called a bill of rights.
The judge had to let it go through the jury trial to abide by the whole, ya know... constitution thing... then went ahead and acted like they had King George tribunal powers anyway.
The law prohibits "double jeopardy".
A directed acquittal from the judge means the defendant cannot be charged again with the crime.
It has been my experience that behind an acquittal of this kind on obscure technicalities lies straightforward judicial corruption, rather than law or ideology.

Yet another obscure point of law of which I was not aware. I have never seen or heard of that being done either. This case should get interesting.
