I once got a jar of bread and butter pickles that were from India. They were okay but the flavor was just slightly off from what I am accustomed to. My main concern was why do we need to import bread and butter pickles.

They’re jarred in water from the Ganges river. That’s where the green tint comes from. I’ve seen several brands of pickles packed in India.

Because the labor costs + taxes + health care requirements for employees are too expensive in the US.
It is cheaper to grow the cucumbers, harvest, process, can and ship them in India to the US than to produce them in the US.
Until we start paying REAL wages (aka whatever the lowest rate someone, anywhere will do the job for) we're not going to compete in the labor market worldwide.
The real wage for this work might be $0.50/hr, but here in the US we have artificial limits and requirements that make us not able to compete.
