A federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration on Thursday to find the money to fully fund food stamps for 42 million low-income Americans in November by Friday, in a rebuke to the government’s plan to only provide reduced aid during the shutdown.
US district judge John J McConnell Jr criticized the administration’s plan to partly fund Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Snap) benefits in November, saying it had failed to comply with an order he issued on Saturday requiring the government to ensure Americans received full or partial benefits no later than Wednesday.
He also said the administration plowed ahead with a plan to partly cover benefits without addressing – as required– the fact that in many states, it could take weeks or months to implement the reduced benefits.

And no one is starving...but millions are turning out for free bees.
The only ones I worry about are the elderly and some who are on disability.
Children...All the school kids now get free breakfast and lunch and some get dinner.
SNAP is just one of MANY contingencies.
The federal judge has no jurisdiction to tell Trump anything and that came from SCOTUS already. Their limited to the jurisdiction they serve and nothing more.
The courts' aggrandizement of power over the past 60 years needs to be stopped.
In short, the judge has just ordered Trump to become king.
The wish here is that Trump take on these unelected rogue judges and disregard their political decisions.
Is it just me, or does the constant proliferation of these “Judge Orders Trump Administration To [blank]” headlines seem like a psy-op?
I mean, the way they are worded always gives the impression it’s a done deal: a judge blocked it - case closed. Or a judge ordered it - so that’s that.
Rarely any discussion of who the judge is, what gives that judge the authority, what recourse the Trump administration has to appeal it, ignore it, or whatever.
And strangely, no follow-up regarding the response, it any - or whether the judges order was ‘obeyed’.
So anyway, I wonder sometimes if these constant headlines are less about reporting an actual ruling - and more about making MAGA folks feel like Trump is powerless - everything he tries to do will be blocked or reversed by some judge.
What Id like to see is an analysis of all these rulings over the last 9 months, that shows how it got resolved or the status of how it’s getting resolved. Does Trump eventually wind up getting his way, or does he get blocked or does he win some and lose some?
And if those are battles, what is the status of the actual war? Can judges simply decide what the President can and cannot do? Are there key SC cases in the works aimed at resolving this?
I’m tired of seeing these headlines and no follow-up.
Force Trump to sell Mara-Lago to fund SNAP. Sort of like Robin Hood.
More like, “King John”!
I thought we didn’t have Kings
How about you be forced to sell any/all of your assets to fund your local food bank?
I mean there’s that, no?
How to fund anything, if there are no money?!
Maybe, declare bankruptcy?
The country is already bankrupt.
100%, we’ve been bankrupt for some time.
Fire 1,000,000 useless bureaucrats, then redirect their salaries to pay for SNAP.
Well said. Apparently we have quite a few judicial kingdoms.
I suspect it is because so much SNAP goes to illegals.
If they stop the free stuff some will go home
Educated in the law. Uhh, yeah. But, they get paid by the commie trash around us.
Doesn’t Congress appropriate the money to run the government so how is Trump supposed to get the money to fund SNAP when there is no approved federal budget? How does a district judge in New Hampshire force Trump to circumvent the Constitution? I hope the Supreme Court finally puts an end to district federal judges forcing national policy when they clearly do not have that authority.
