If Jesus Was a Jew, Why Are We Catholic?

The term Jew is used in at least two senses in Scripture: to refer to those who are ethnically Jews and to those who are religiously Jews. Jesus was a Jew in both senses. In fact, he completed the Jewish religion by serving as the Messiah (Christ) whom the prophets had long foretold.

The completed form of the Jewish religion is known as Christianity, and its adherents are Christians or “followers of the Christ.” Unfortunately, many people who were ethnically Jewish did not recognize Jesus’ role as Messiah and so did not accept Christianity, the completed form of Judaism. Instead, they stayed with a partial, incomplete form of Judaism. Other Jews (the apostles and their followers) did recognize that Jesus was the Messiah and embraced the new, completed form of Judaism

Romans3:31 and Roman’s 7 :7 states the Law is valid. Did Jesus come to destroy the Law? What were his exact words on the matter?

Peter was NOT a pope. Jesus said on this rock (HIM) the church will be built, not Peter. That would be completely contrary to everything Jesus taught.

I know you and most others wish the Ten Commandments would just go away. The Law is forever, the Bible says so. The Law is perfect, the Bible says so. The Law is based on love just as God is. The Law is reflection of God’s character. I understand your desire for the RCC. Safety in numbers. Surely God would not condemn that many people is the thinking. All of the loopholes denominations look for to evade God’s Law. All of the excuses. All of the cutesy explanations and reasoning won’t hold up at Judgment Day.

Matt 5:7 I have come to fulfill the law. Christ has DONE it. There is no justification by the works of the Law. I asked what you were, apparently a Judaizer who believes that works of the law justify. Have you sinned? You have broken the 3rd Commandment. Of course, your prophetess is wiser than an Apostle of the Lord.

I understand your desire for the RCC.

Not RCC.

All of the excuses. All of the cutesy explanations and reasoning won’t hold up at Judgment Day.

Exactly as true Christians live by faith they will be in the sheep herd. Where you'll be in the herd crying Lord Lord and being told 'I never knew you, (works righteousness types) depart from Me you workers of iniquity.' The Law of God is always good, no one can keep it. The Law isn't salvific. It was kept and fulfilled by the Lord. Christians shall live by faith.

Hebrews 4 speaks of Jesus as our Sabbath rest. Verses 9-10 state, “So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.” Hebrews 4 then ends with words of comfort for those who enter God’s Sabbath rest: “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). Christ’s finished work allows us to confidently come before God, receiving mercy and grace in our time of need.

Jesus came to FULFILL the law. Which makes perfect sense that he FULFILLED the sabbath. This does not mean we should cease gathering together as the Word calls us to do but there is no need to rest on a day of the week when the sabbath rest is now IN US (as believers)

Matthew 22
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

you can’t fulfill the law hence the need for Jesus Christ who FULFILLED the law. The law was only necessary to show you you need a Savior.

Judaizer, eh? Probably a pejorative label meaning different things to different people. The Apostle Paul was probably the ultimate judaizer in some respects. He wrote extensively on the relationship between works and faith. You are well read and seem smart but can’t quite embrace what Paul wrote and apply it. It seems so foreign to the world and it’s religions. If the Holy Spirit and Paul’s writings don’t enlighten you, I don’t stand a chance.

More new age logic to violate God’s holy and perfect Law. I’m sure the priests plotting the crucifixion of Jesus were just as smug and self justified on their path.

Probably a pejorative label meaning different things to different people.

Actually has a definition from the Bible, but don't know if that holds weight for you.

Jewish Christians The Judaizers were a group of Jewish Christians in the early church who taught that Gentile converts to Christianity needed to adhere to certain Jewish laws and customs, particularly circumcision. The issue arose prominently in the early church as recorded in Acts 15 and Galatians 2.

but can’t quite embrace what Paul wrote and apply it

LOL, right.

Certain Jewish laws and customs particularly circumcision. Okay, so that does not apply to me then. I’ve never advocated for any of the Mosaic ceremonial laws which were nailed to the cross. What other aspersions do you have then?

The Ten Commandments were nailed to the Cross as well. All sin for all for all time.

Chapter and verse on that. The Mosaic law was wrote on papyrus but the Ten Commandments were wrote on stone. Stone is not to be nailed. Stone signifies permanence and God has a copy in Heaven.

You should actually read the Word; you’ll learn so much.

A total compliment. I am filled with Godly wisdom, unencumbered by the spirit of religion. You though, want to pick fights and defend the indefensible due to pride.
