You are looking at it from the viewpoint of a rational thinking person. True believers don't examine the facts and come to a rational conclusion. They "feel" that they're right and no amount of evidence to the contrary will budge their belief. a couple of quotes come to mind

you see the same irrational behavior on a grand scale with socialism and the current Democrat party. Socialism has NEVER fulfilled it's promises from Plymouth Plantation* to the current day North Korea, Venezuela, etc. The evidence is plain and overwhelming, but vast numbers of fools believe in it because they want it to be true. Free stuff! No work! Tax the rich to pay for it! Fantasies, but appealing ones.
