During his first month in office, Mayor Daniel Lurie achieved something remarkable: He received near-unanimous approval from San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors to make himself more powerful. The board voted to broaden Lurie’s power to dole out contracts related to homelessness, mental health and drug abuse, and to reduce its own control over the process.
In interviews with over a dozen people who work in city politics, most agreed that the new administration is a sea change from former Mayor London Breed’s way of doing things, which was marked by interdepartmental animosity, bad blood with supervisors, and corruption.
“There’s a universal sentiment that he’s a nice guy,” added David Ho, another political consultant.
It hasn’t taken much to mark a different era: Lurie’s effort with the Board of Supervisors can consist of as little as dropping into their offices for a chat, which he does regularly. Breed, by contrast, did not make a practice of doing so.
“He has come to my office to talk about policy issues with me, and he has come to my office for social events like the art show, and just to say hi to my staff,” said Rafael Mandelman, the president of the Board of Supervisors.
“Not only did he remember my birthday, but he called me when I was sick,” added District 7 Supervisor Myrna Melgar, who was out for a week with the flu earlier this year. On her birthday, the mayor actually brought her chocolates. She was touched. “He is trying really hard to be a good co-worker.”
Lurie also appears to be enjoying support from his constituents. A February poll from the Chamber of Commerce found 43 percent of its residents think the city is on the right track, almost double the 22 percent from last year under Breed.

LOL. He is far to the left of London Breed. The mayor does not control everything in San Francisco.
Levi went far left and woke years ago
Which is why I quit buying Levi 505s years ago.
In 1980’s NYC, Rudy Giuliani how to quickly and effectively and humanely fix the homeless problem.
Before Giuliani, NYC was a dark, nasty, dirty place. Homelessness everywhere. No one would go to dangerous Central Park.
Giuliani put in place a program where the homeless had shelters to which they they could go at night that would also assist them in finding work and eventually a place of their own.
Those homeless who stayed outside and homeless after dark and would not go to the shelters, would be arrested for breaking vagrancy laws. Almost overnight, NYC was clean and bright and Central Park was a lovely destination.
Simple solution, only need the will to do it and SF can be the beautiful place it always has been.
Perhaps not, but the democRATS and DemoKKKrats have an iron fist on the Late Great State Of Kalifornia.
Sowing chaos, crisis, and division is one of their fortees.
Never let a crisis go to waste.
TWENTY FIVE $$-BILLION-$$ for the Kalifornia Homeless Industrial Complex.
$100 million raised for the victims of the Lost Angeless fires. Where did all that money go? None of your frakin business.
isnt Dan Goldman part of that Levis inheritors?
Dan Goldman is one of the worst - very militant and he gets off on shotgunning questions for those required or brought to sit at Judiciary hearings.
God bless him! Hope he’s doing okay!!!!
The Left and lunatics are in firm control of San Francisco for the foreseeable future. The decadence and the decline will continue until the city is destroyed by some natural disaster such as a huge earthquake. It is too far gone, will never reform and will have the same fate as biblical Sodom.
More power to run the graft machine personally with less oversight - this is a good thing?
I vote in SF, and ranked Lurie 2nd in the ranked choice. I do think he is fundamentally a nice guy. On the other hand, his cousin-by-marriage and fellow Levis heir, Rep. Dan Goldman, D-NY10, is a really nasty, acute-TDS SOB.

Yeah, I remember that Goldman prick during the first impeachment farce.
The next time I saw the jerk, he’d bought himself a Congressional seat.
Fellow SF here, we had the downtown somewhat cleaned out during sales force; they moved the zombies to other areas and it was not appreciated. The fact is that this “nice” guy only cleans up downtown for chairman Xi and sales force.
This shows it can be done. The will is not there.
All of our elected and every commissioner on every commission is democrat here. Not ONE Republican.
yuo... he shotgunns questionibg, then if the person doesnt answer what he WANTS TO HEAR, he shuts ‘ em down snd then says I’ ll take that as a NO..he is always very self righteous, too.
Gawd help the woman married to him
