Woman Gives 11 Years to Company—‘Insulting’ Reward Sparks Outrage
Newsweek ^ | 10/3/2025 | Lucy Notarantonio

A Reddit post showing how one woman was rewarded for more than a decade of service at her job has struck a nerve online.

The post by u/BigZee004, shared to the subreddit Mildly Infuriating, has received more than 42,000 upvotes since it was shared on October 1.

The viral image shows what the poster’s girlfriend was given for 11 years at her company: a single mini candy bar tied with a “thank you” tag. In tiny print, the tag reads, “We appreciate your dedication and loyalty over the past 11 years.”

The poster added in the comments: “This was in lieu of an increase. Which makes it more insulting.”

(snip)

Thousands of Reddit users shared similar stories of lackluster recognition.

“Is 11 years significant? I would have thought 10 years would be when you expect a little more,” one user wrote.

Another commented, “I had my 10 years of service some months ago. I did not even realize at first until someone asked me how long I had been working there. Got no gift or notification at all.”

A third added, “My partner got a sticker for his hard hat for 15 years.”

There's also the possibility she was either not a good employee, or not well liked - or both.

I worked at a major engineering firm.

No ten-year or 20-year recognitions for anyone.

No big deal.

General Dynamics and Honeywell gave crappy little gifts like a tool set that probably cost $10 or a fake woodgrain plastic plaque. We all thought they’d have been much better off giving nothing rather than cheap junk.

She was employed. Unless they didn’t pay her, she gave them nothing.

No recognition is better than crappy recognition. At least if the company just ignores that stuff then there are no expectations. But when they start doing stuff it needs to be good stuff otherwise it becomes insulting. And in lieu of a raise, well that’s extra insulting.

What kind of mini candy bar? If it was a Payday or a Snickers, what’s the problem?

Your employer owes you nothing more than a paycheck. But… morale is important in any organization. Too many companies don’t understand that.

I once worked for a principal who’d provide everyone free ice cream for lunch (out of his own pocket) if teacher attendance that day was 100%. We’d all go the extra mile for that guy.

Interestingly enough, that principal was once an army infantryman. He understood the concept of morale. Today’s principals are all whiz kids. They don’t have a clue.

Same.
In fact, after I was with one group for 27 years, the only thing I received was a email saying that my email account was being closed.

By the way, I served honorably and was loyal. I was simply promoted to another group in the same company that used a different email domain.

I get recognition.

I get an email that says ‘Thanks’.

Cool by me.

I worked my last twelve years in a division where appreciation for the employees was a big deal. Everyone, even the lowest on the ‘totem pole’ was treated as of equal value and importance, including recognition every five years of employment.

It was one of the nicest outfits I’ve worked for, and one with the least dissatisfaction among the work force.

The fact she posted on reddit is pretty big tell. Reddit is a leftist hell hole.

she got paid while she worked ...

that was the deal ...

that is enough ...

she has nothing to bitch about ...

this is one reason women don't belong in the workplace ...

they soil it in so many ways ...

I have been running my own company for 25 years, sacrificing to make payroll every week even when there is no money for our family, available every day including vacations, putting up our house and other assets as collateral, going into debt to start business etc.

A candy bar would be nice. Even a Hershey Kiss would be wonderful.
