I prefer Claude Desktop, myself.
But I think we have to define how Chat GPT works. Chat GPT talks to the Large Language Model. The Large Language Model can’t remember anything. If you type your name in the first prompt, and then ask it “What’s my name?” in the second prompt, it will respond with “I’m sorry I don’t have that information”. The “memory” comes from basically sending the entire conversation history to the LLM, with each user request. The ChatGPT program manages all that for you. Without that history, it’s useless.
Actually I do run an LLM on my local machine, using Ollama, but I use tools so the chatbot can access any information it needs to send to the LLM. But it’s important to note that the LLM is not what accesses the information, it has to have that information fed into it.
Hopefully for some here that will somewhat de-mystify how AI works.

It has persistent memory now—stored outside the model and automatically pulled in when needed. That’s how it can remember my name or past projects across sessions without me repeating anything.
So claiming it’s “useless without history” isn’t just outdated—it’s wrong. If you’re going to explain how AI works, try keeping up.

I think we are looking at two different uses of AI. There are those who want to use it as a tool to cheat and produce wholesale knockoffs of their work, or predict stocks both for profit as a priority.
What I am against is companies and government trusting it to control whole data systems that can wreck havoc when it is wrong. Or be used as an information control filter, or for micromanaging every little thing we do and enslave us.
I mean literally they are going to use it to create the Matrix and Skynet. They already have the infrastructure they just needed the computing power to do it. AI gives them this computing power. That “tool” is bait on a hook. In our greed they let us nibble at the bait but soon they will jerk the line and set the hook and reel us in...
Is it really worth the short term profits if the long term actually means total enslavement? They are going to give this the decision making power of life and death over us. They are going to use it to make our lives a perpetual anal exam. They are going to let it dole out punishments and rewards in real time. They are going to use it as a “reeducation” outlet. They will use it to create a completely false reality. And they will have complete immunity, plausible deniability, and no accountability when it makes mistakes and destroys lives.
It will just be considered totally acceptable collateral damage in the bigger whole of things. The negative outcome far far outweighs any good they are selling us. Their intentions are not in our favor at all. They do not plan to use it to help humanity, they intend to use it to enslave humanity. This is a Patriot act clone on steroids... We have to make a decision, is the short term money more important than the future freedom of humanity? Prosperity is absolutely worthless without also having freedom...
