Still waiting for recalls (along with millions of others) on my 2010 Ford Exploder transmission and 2012 Expedition defective timing belt. There is a mechanic on YouTube whose entire family makes a living just from replacing the latter - at owner’s cost.
Ford is incompetent.
A few of the sub-2 liter displacement engines use a "wet timing belt" Those engines you should avoid. The 2.4 liter eco-boost used in the Mustang... I have a 2015 with about 76K miles on it. No problems thus far.
That said... these engines can't be maintained by the owner. Anything serious & you're pretty much hostage to what a Ford dealership wants to charge. Ford isn't unique in this. It's industry-wide.
If the cars spontaneously catch fire would that be a “bug” or a “feature”?
I’ve had two Volkswagon that stopped dead in traffic because their cheap fuel pump relays crapped out. That experience cured me of VWs.
Turbos have a short life and high maintenance due to their high RPM range.
In 1962 Studebaker used a super charger on the Hawk no problems had one for a 259 C.I. it took down a few 327’s.
The spyder corvair has twin turbos quick but a lot of maintenance.
turbo charged engines are only good for racing... applying them to the domestic automotive market for daily use is a recipe for repeat business for repairs...
I had a 2003 Ford Escape many years ago with that very issue. So it’s not a new problem.
