“Would you like to ‘Round up’ to help starving children in Botswana?”
It’s EXTORTION.
I’ll respond, “no, I’m a Malthusian. The solution to starving people is less people.”
That is driving me nuts. Every checkout at every store now gives you the option to round up to help some cause. Plus, most of the time, some group is setup outside the store asking for donations or selling something.
There are many times when I would consider rounding up , if I could know for certain the money wasn’t going towards Gender Surgeries for Preschoolers or something so bizarre and objectional as that. Nowadays, you just don’t know unless you research each charity. There remain some charities that I hope have remained above reproach. I would hope that McDonald’s Charity for kids with cancer remains free from such bad decision making.
I always tell them, "What say we round down to help with next months mortgage"? :)
Re: Rounding Up...
I just say, ‘No, Thanks. I give my charity dollars through my Church.’ No one has ever given me grief over that. So far.
My credit union automatically rounds up my charges, which goes into a separate account.
They should be helped in three ways:
1. the druggies/alcoholics go to jail or treatment, their choice.
2.The mentally ill go to mental hospital and get their medication.
3. All the rest live and work at a poor farm just like 150 years ago. It worked then, it will work now if society and politicians grow a more reality based thicker skin.
