A Song for the Texas Rescuers
WSJ ^ | 6 July 2025 | Bob Greene

‘I will rescue you,’ Lauren Daigle sang 1,400 miles away from Camp Mystic.

...Her name was Lauren Daigle. Her performance was scheduled months in advance; the timing, at this terrible moment, was unplanned. As all those children in Texas remained unaccounted for, she sang: “I hear you whisper underneath your breath / I hear your SOS, your SOS . . .”

“I will never stop marching to reach you / In the middle of the hardest fight . . .”

It’s flooding down in Texas and the telephone lines are down? Can’t go home if you’re going by the hill because the bridge is washed out at the bottom of the hill? Songs about not trusting the government? There’s a lot of Texas flood music….

The 1936 Floods--Red Foley (1936)

Water is a blessing when it's pure and cool and clean,
Refreshing to an ever-thirsting soul,
Still, water is a demon, wrecking every peaceful scene,
When it goes on a rampage with a toll.
The storms and rain cried in fury,
And maddening floods started to roll.
Confusion and fear brought much misery,
Fpr nature had lost all control.
300,000 persons were in a terrible tix
In that awful flood of 1936.
