By definition, the purpose of “capitalism” is not to create economic freedom for all. It drives me crazy when people confuse that term

I like the idea of a “free market”. That would include the elimination of any regulations that would restrict access to markets.

In order to grow, businesses need new capital. Relying on massive amounts of borrowed capital alone is simply not possible.

To facilitate the acquiring of capital, the corporation evolved.

To facilitate the existence and growth of corporations, governance was developed and continuously modified.

That process is capitalism

It’s not Capitalism, it’s Free Enterprise.

Don’t use your enemies’s language and definitions.

Is it not because the market is free that persons are able to accumulate capital?

We haven't had capitalism in over a hundred years here. Kinda the problem, the people pushing capitalism, isn't capitalism. We've pretty much run out private capital out of the system. The system has been overwhelmed with monies, grants, and other incentives for picking the winners and losers via government.

Was it not Marx himself who coined the term “capitalism”?

Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people.

Mamdani didn’t come to this country because of communism. He came here to enjoy the benefits of capitalism.

General Augusto Pinochet had the right idea for dealing with Marxist abominations.

And then once they get their wealth, they want socialism to get rid of potential competition.

One other system comes close, a bizarre quasi-religious political system but socialism beats them in numbers by far.

My biggest problem with the word is that, IIRC, it was actually created by the communists during the Russian Revolution. That’s why I said it depends what is meant by the person using the word. To a communist I think it is meant to describe people who love money too much.

The proper term is “Free Enterprise”. Distribution of Capital in the hands of more people, rather than in the hands of the few, be it individuals or The State.

Thank you. That was the phrase I was looking for. I’m 71, and I’m aware that words are slipping away. The internet is a HUGE help, but I have to be motivated to use it to search for that word or phrase that I used to easily recollect. 😉

Yes, but when those with capital start to restrict markets is when the economic system changes.

There is nothing wrong with wealth. You can have as much as you can. Just allow others the same opportunity.

Regulation, which many think of as being “socialist” is mostly generated by capitalists manipulating politicians, (and in turn the system,) to protect their own wealth.

If you have a lot of capital you can pay what more regulation demands. However a smaller player, or newcomer, to the market might have a hard time overcoming those requirements.

And it’s exactly the confusion of terms that prevents people from seeing the issue clearly.
