In LA stealing less that $900 isn’t even a crime. How can anyone stay in business with thefts like that?

Proposition 36 (Effective Dec 18, 2024)

Even for thefts under $950, if you have two or more prior theft convictions, prosecutors can file felony charges under PC 666.1.

The value of multiple thefts can be added together, and organized retail theft (e.g., smash-and-grab, coordinated efforts) are now more vigorously prosecuted

.

LA County DA Hochman is aggressively enforcing this, with over 1,000 felony charges filed under Prop 36 since Dec 2024

That dipshit DA Gascon is gone thanks to voters and the laws have been tightened. I don’t think they go far enough but at least it’s a step back from the insanity.
