The CIA, I’m sure, will say that they are “not able to locate any records of employment” of these individuals, which of course does not in any way answer the question whether they worked there, nor whether the coup attempt was indeed an explicit covert op they were specifically tasked to accomplish.

Yep, and they got caught. They're very fortunate to be out of the DRC, where they received life sentences. The terms of their repatriation is unclear, but most likely, the State and Justice departments intervened and agreed to prosecute them in the US.

I heard this a lot back in the late 60s and early 70s.....As always, should you or any of your IM Force be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This post however will not destruct in 5 seconds. :)
