Nc was way more provincial back then. Grocery stores had dog racing promotions with prize give aways on Saturday evenings, usually. Races ran on tv around 7, iirc. Do not forget to give your customer his racing form!
Local TV had kiddie shows...our area had The Ole Rebel! Horrors! LOL!
it wasn’t Mayberry but it dang sure wanted to be.

We’ve lost a lot over these last 50 years, wrestling among them. Made gains to be sure, but lost some vital essence.

Three years ago I moved to a very small, rural town in TN. One Friday every month (except during the coldest monts) they set up a pro wrestling ring at the firestation at the end of the street I live on.

I've been tempted to pay them a visit.
