The same goes for "gender," which is a term that should be confined to linguistics. The proper biological term is "sex." There are three genders (masculine, feminine, neuter) and two sexes (male, female).

Speaking of linguistics, so-called journalists trend toward referring to one of these addled people in a plural tense is maddening. I can't count how many times I reread an article trying to find the "other person I missed" reading it the first time - to eventually realize I'd fallen for it again.
